XDCAM HD decks are highly versatile and can be used for many different applications including HD video recording, linear/nonlinear editing, and presentations at large exhibitions and conference venues. The PDW-F75 XDCAM is highly flexible and can record in both MPEG HD and DVCAM formats. It is capable of recording 1080 video lines of multiple frame rates at a high bit rate of up to 35 Mbps on Professional Disc media. It also provides four channels of high quality uncompressed audio.

The PDW-F75 deck records and plays Professional Disc with HD material at 1080/59.94i, 50i, 29.97P, 25P and native 23.98P using the "MPEG HD" codec that uses the industry standard MPEG-2 MP@HL compression. And for high quality sound, four channel, 16 bit, 48 kHz uncompressed audio is used. The deck also can down-convert MPEG HD material to DV signals and outputs via the i.LINK interface. The PDW-F75 also features a built-in Up/Down-conversion to up-convert DVCAM material to HD signals and output via HD-SDI or HD analog component connection as well as to down-convert MPEG HD material to SD SDI or composite connection. It supports Jog/Variable operation with +/- 1 times normal speed and Shuttle with +/- 20 times normal speed even adopting MPEG Long GOP. In the thumbnail operation, the Expand function displays 12x further detail around a scene, which the operator can see in the clip, on top of Scene Selection, commonly known as in-deck cuts-only editing capability.

    * MPEG HD recording at multiple bit rates and playback
    * Playback capability of DVCAM material with HD up-conversion output
    * Optional DVCAM recording capability
    * Both single-layer disc (PFD-23A) and dual-layer disc (PFD-50DLA) support
    * Thumbnail display with instant access and replay of clips
    * Scene Selection function for in-deck cuts-only editing
    * Equipped with Jog/Shuttle dial, providing VTR-like operation - Jog/variable: +/- 1 time normal speed, Shuttle: +/- 20 times normal speed
    * Inputs: HD-SDI, AES/EBU audio, analog audio, timecode, reference

    * Other interfaces: RS-422A, RS-232C, Gigabit Ethernet (option)
    * i.LINK interface that supports File Access Mode and AV/C (DV stream) output
    * HD down-conversion capability: DV output via i.LINK (DV OUT) port or baseband SD output via SD-SDI, analog component or composite ports
    * 16:9, 3.5-inch type color LCD display
    * Optional Gigabit Ethernet capability for network-based file transfer
    * Optional capability to input and output 25 Mbps MPEG-2 TS (Transport Stream) for interfacing with HDV products or HDV-based nonlinear editors via i.LINK port
    * Dimensions (W x H x D): 12 1/8 x 4 x 16 1/2 inches (307 x 100 x 417 mm)

* Record and Playback
Record and playback DVCAM and MPEG HD material at multiple bit rates (18Mbps, 25Mpbs and 35Mpbs). For DVCAM recording, it is necessary to install PDBK-104 optional board.

* Up/Down Conversion
The PDW-F75 recording deck has the up-conversion capability to allow material recorded in the DVCAM format to be converted to HD signals and output via its HD-SDI or HD analog component connector. This capability allows users to easily and flexibly migrate to HD-based operations at their own pace. During HD material playback, the deck can output DVCAM via i.Link (DV OUT) port or baseband SD output via SD-SDI, composite output, or optional analog component output,

* A/V Inputs
HD-SDI, AES/EBU audio, analog audio, timecode, reference

* A/V Outputs
HD-SDI, Y/Pb/Pr, SD-SDI, RGB, SD analog composite, AES/EBU audio, analog audio, timecode, XGA/VGA, audio monitor (L/R)

* Other interfaces
RS-422A, RS-232C, Ethernet (Optional Gigabit Ethernet capability for network-based file transfer)
i.Link interface that supports File Access Mode and DV OUT

* MPEG-2 TS output
Optional capability to input and output 25 Mb/s MPEG-2 TS (Transport Stream) for interfacing with HDV products or HDV-based nonlinear editors via an i.LINK port

* Jog/Shuttle
Equipped with Jog/shuttle dial, providing VTR-like operation
- Jog/variable: x1 time normal speed, shuttle: x20 times normal speed

* LCD Display
16:9, 3.5"* type color LCD Screen
*Viewable area measured diagonally.

* Trigger REC function over HD-SDI
If it is connected with SONY HDW series camcorder via HD-SDI, PDW-F75 can detect the status of camcorder and automatically start and stop recording.

* 9-pin Remote
Can be controlled as a linear deck, functioning as that bridge between analog & digital formats

* High-speed transfer of Proxy AV data
Through its network interfaces, the Proxy AV data (2Mbps MPEG-4 SP) can be transferred at up to 18x-20x real time.

* Metadata Recording
Capable of recording a variety of metadata, which provides a huge advantage when searching for data in subsequent processes. Users have the flexibility to designate the amount of metadata they wish to record. The types of metadata that the Sony XDCAM Series of products can handle and record:
- UMID
- Essence Marking (Manual and Automatic)
- Thumbnails, Sub clips
- Ability to write EDL back onto disc

* Expand function
The clip for a selected thumbnail is divided into 12 even time intervals. The first frame of each of these 12 time divisions is shown as a thumbnail. With this function, it is easy to search rapidly for scenes within a long clip. This expand function can be applied up to three times (dividing the clip into 1728 even time intervals) to show a list of the frames.

* Scene Selection
Provides a non-destructive, cuts-only editing capability in the deck and camcorder.

* Thumbnail Search Operation and Scene Selection Capability
Thumbnail display with instant access to clips.
Combined with an attached video monitor, the PDW-F75 enables the user to perform thumbnail searches and create scene selections. The user can achieve quick, random access to each clip and creation of scene selection lists. The PDW-F75 can then utilize those scene selection lists by playing out the video in the order prescribed by the list.
The color LCD screen provided enables thumbnail search and scene selection functionality. Through the use of those functions, the user has quick, random access to each clip and can create scene selection lists and play them out in the order prescribed by the list.

* Selectable Modes of File Recording
Two types of file recording mode is provided. In standard operation, one clip file is created each time recording is started and stopped. In the other mode, called Clip Continuous REC Mode, one clip file can be created while multiple record start and stop. (Available when recording is remotely controlled via an RS422A or RS-232C interface, or during Trigger REC mode via HD-SDI interface.)

* Compact, Lightweight Design
The dimensions (WxHxD): 12 1/8 x 4 x 16 1/2 inches
